Crankworx World Tour Report - Rotorua, New Zealand

The Sun Comes Out After Cyclone Debbie Hit the Coast of Australia

10th, April 2017   |   TAGGED: Jill Kintner, Crankworx
Rotorua, New Zealand - March 22- April 2, 2017 - The first major event of 2017 headed to the southern hemisphere to try to capture a piece of the New Zealand summer. The week started out quite wet from neighboring Cyclone Debbie off the coast of Australia, effecting both the EWS and and early Crankworx events. Luckily as the week unfolded, the sun came out and dried things out, a bit:). Jill Kintner competed in 3 events (Air DH, Pumptrack, and Downhill) to put her mark towards the overall prize for the Queen of Crankworx, and demonstrate her ability once again across several disciplines.

JILL KINTNER...

“I was so excited heading into New Zealand after a long wintery off-season. Riding wise, I felt dialed coming in, but had to adapt quite a bit to the weather and changes to the schedule this week. Overall it was a good shakedown to get the race season started, so to come out with the points lead is pretty sweet."

JILL KINTNER - 2nd - PUMPTRACK

“I put myself in a good spot for pump track; having qualified 1st and made it to finals. It felt like the pressure was on, and with all the holds for commercial brakes etc., maybe I allowed myself to feel that pressure more than I should have. In the final, I was going for it, but just an inch off in the back turn, which killed my speed and chance to win. Silver is not what I was going for, but it’s ok, for now. It’s good to have tough competition to push me to my best.”

JILL KINTNER….. 6th - DOWNHILL

“The course this year felt totally different with the rain, the dark brown soil required cut spikes and was pretty slippery all rutted up. It was fun to ride, but my run took me off course and was messy with a couple impacts, so I might just forget about this one and move on.  :)”.
